Shared Stories is an audio project that pays tribute to female literary figures on Women Writers Day

Listen to the works of women writers free of charge, anywhere and on any device. This is what Relatos compartidos (Shared Stories) offers. It's a sound bank containing 228 recorded readings of works by female authors in Catalan, Spanish, Galician and Basque. The project, organized by the libraries of the Camilo José Cela University (UCJC) and the Universitat Oberta de Catalunya (UOC), invites those interested to rediscover the literary legacy of our female authors to mark Women Writers Day on 14 October.

The third edition of Shared Stories features 154 users and professionals from 64 libraries, who have contributed to expanding the project's sound bank by reading works by female authors in the public domain. The participating institutions represent a broad spectrum of libraries: from university and municipal libraries to specialized centres and the National Library of Spain.

The UOC community has also joined the project. Around 70 participants have read works by female writers including Maria de Bell-lloc, Maria Pi i Sunyer, Carme Karr, Trinitat Aldrich, Dolors Monserdà, Alfonsina Storni, Emilia Pardo Bazán, Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz, Filomena Dato, Rosalia de Castro, Delmira Agustini, Esther Tàpia de Castellans, Júlia d'Asensi and Joaquina García Balmaseda.

The third edition began on Sant Jordi's Day, and this year the UOC's Culture department joined in. This year time the campaign has become more broad-based, as participants included reading clubs, the Network of Public Libraries and renowned contemporary female writers who have joined the project as specialists. Coia Valls, Maria Solar, Karmele Jaio, Sara Jaramillo and Montse Barderi are some of the female authors who have contributed to the project.

Shared Stories

This collaborative initiative between libraries, which aims to raise the profile of women's talent in Spain's literature, was launched in 2022. The project seeks to create synergies through recorded readings of works written by women in Spain's various official languages.
