Celebrate Pride Day with a selection of books, documentaries and guides

To mark International Pride Day, here's a selection of content from the Library's collection, in a wide variety of formats and fields of study.
These range from books and audio-visual content exploring the movement's history to resources fostering understanding of different personal experiences. You'll also find practical guides on education and raising awareness, as well as an up-to-date report on the LGBTI community around the world.

A documentary narrated by George Takei, LGBTI activist and legendary Star Trek actor. It tells the tale of four hikers determined to conquer Mount Hood, in the US state of Oregon. Over the course of their adventure, they share their personal experiences as LGBTI people and their desire to overcome both the physical and the social obstacles along the way.

A 1995 film directed by Nigel Finch and co-produced by the BBC. It tells the tale of the Stonewall Riots, which took place in New York in 1969 and which are commemorated each year on International Pride Day. The plot follows the leading character, a young homosexual who discovers his own identity amongst the conflicts and social tensions of the time.
There are also many more resources to help you celebrate International Pride Day. They include an escape room made at the UOC (Universitat Oberta de Catalunya) as part of the School Break project, to work on sexual orientation and gender identity in the classroom.
