If you are about to embark upon your final project, a good starting point might be to cast your eye over the bachelor's and master's degree final projects that teaching staff from the UOC's different faculties have honoured for their quality.
Also, to inspire you and encourage you to contribute to the university's commitment to the UN's global challenges, we're giving you some examples of projects that, from different areas of knowledge, analyse gender or LGTBI+-related inequalities or help raise the profile of important women.
All the projects we recommend are viewable, free of charge, at the UOC's O2 Repository. Aside from final projects, this portal brings together other publications designed for the university community, such as some 80 books, learning resources, doctoral theses and research articles.
Marlena Cuenca Aliaga
This project received the prize for the best final project in the 2020-21 academic year in the bachelor's degree in Communication. Its author analyses the political communication role of livestreaming platform Twitch, which, although originally designed for the gaming community, has experienced gradual diversification of its content. After an introduction to Twitch, the project presents the results of a survey with more than 500 responses to understand how users employ it, as well as two case studies.
Elena Pardinas Duró
Winner of the award for best final project 2020-21 in the master's degree in Corporate Communication, Protocol and Events, for its analysis of internal communication trends. It contains examples of successful corporate communication by Spanish firms, a review of literature in the field and interviews with six industry professionals.
Carlos Tavera Alonso
The best final project, master's degree in Social Media: Management and Strategy 2020-21, analyses the official YouTube channel of political party VOX. The goal of the project was to see if there is an "echo chamber" effect: in other words, if accounts close to the same political ideology disseminate, replicate and amplify content and expose web surfers to messages sympathetic to their ideas or beliefs.
Nini Pallarols Hortal
Can the "flipped classroom" approach motivate Vocational Training and Guidance students? This project assesses student satisfaction with a public centre's three training cycles on the basis of their responses to a survey by some 50 people and interviews with teaching staff. This project won the prize for best final project 2020-21 in the joint master's degree in Teacher Training - Secondary Education, Language Teaching and Vocational Training (UPF, UOC).
Francisco Roca Pérez
This final project took first place in the master's degree in Education and ICT (E-learning) at the award ceremony for the faculties' prizes for the best final degree projects 2020-21. It investigates whether the building of robots and their programming in primary education classrooms helps children develop computational thinking. The author reviews existing literature and provides examples of good implementation practices, whilst also noting the challenges faced by teaching staff.
Mayte Ramírez Lázaro
Examines the suitability of the criteria and mechanisms employed to guarantee the quality of distance higher education. The author examines the main challenges and opportunities and makes suggestions for improvement in a context in which the COVID-19 crisis has reawakened interest in online education. This project won the award for best final project 2020-21 in the master's degree in Quality Management and Evaluation in Higher Education.
Ana Isabel Polo Fernández
Teaching staff have highlighted the quality of this final project for the master's degree in Child and Adolescent Psychology: Intervention Techniques and Strategies. Its author suggests psychological treatment within the context of the COVID-19 pandemic for a 7-year-old boy with emotional distress and self-regulation problems arising from limited intellectual abilities. The work includes the results of pre- and post-treatment assessments.
Sara Sánchez Cuevas
Under the current employment model, the over-45s state that they are habitually discriminated against and excluded from recruitment processes. This master's degree final project examines the hegemonic definition of professional competencies to contribute to reducing age-related stereotypes and inequalities affecting this segment of the population. The author analyses the institutional discourse of the Catalan Occupation Service (SOC) and interviews career guidance staff and unemployed people. Winner of the best final project award 2020-21 in the master's degree in Employment and the Labour Market: Intervention and Coaching for Work.
Josep Gómez Guixà
Final project for the joint master's degree in the Ancient Mediterranean (UOC, UAB, UAH), presented as an example of good practices at the 3rd Encounter of the Faculty of Arts and Humanities. It analyses the impact of the pandemic on archaeological heritage, as well as its adaptation to and future prospects with the use of digital tools. To this end, the author consulted numerous sources of information and interviewed different members of the senior management and communication teams of the Museum of Archeology of Catalonia (MAC).
Adela Múñoz-Reja Ruiz
This final project for the bachelor's degree in Translation, Interpreting and Applied Languages (UOC, UVic) analyses whether the methodology for translating medical texts can be applied to a different subject matter, to assess its versatility. The project outlines the entire process for translating the subtitles for a documentary on the Fukushima nuclear accident. The author presented her work during the 3rd Encounter of the Faculty of Arts and Humanities.
Alejandro Pérez Mendioroz
This won the award for the best final project 2020-21 in the bachelor's degree in Criminology and posits a police protocol so that witnesses to and victims of crimes may carry out the photo line-up process as part of a criminal investigation. The author analyses the current status of this procedure and recommends improvements combining scientific understanding with the legal requirements of the courts.
Josep Vicent Monjo Agut
This student of the master's degree in Web App and Website Development developed a Progressive Web App (PWA) for managing School Parents' Associations (AMPA). It is designed to share news, after-school and before-school activities. The author provides an in-depth look at his project on the Tecnologia++ blog.
Eric Robert Gill
This student of the bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering won the Special Prize for the best academic record. His bachelor's degree final project investigates whether Convolutional Neural Networks can help detect COVID-19 symptoms using lung X-rays. Victor Manuel Revaliente Casilla
This project's goal was to develop a video game from scratch. It spans the entire process, from design to implementation and testing. The result is CarOut!, a game in which the player controls a car.
Jorge Lara Guillén
Winner of the prize for the best final project 2020-2021 in the master's degree in Digital Innovation and Transformation. After monitoring comments about a brand on social networks, the author concludes that customer relations provide information of great value to businesses, making it essential for brands to maintain a good database.
Francisco José Martín Andrades
Winner of the prize for the best final project 2020-2021 in the master's degree in Digital Marketing. In this project, the author sets out a digital marketing plan to help the Cueva Rajada cultural and environmental association achieve its strategic goals, which are entirely social in nature.
Noemí García García
Winner of the prize for the best final project in the master's degree in Nutrition and Health, this project proposes an awareness-raising campaign for the people of Menorca, targeting food waste by producers, distributors and consumers. Ana Karla Rey Montalva
The goal of this project was to establish the use and disuse by women of urban spaces in the districts of Sant Adrià Nord and Sant Joan Baptista and the importance of applying a gender perspective to town planning to achieve cities that are truly equitable for all their inhabitants.
Jesica Piñón Rodríguez
An overview of the European countries' state of health from a gender perspective. Analyses health indicators including life expectancy and healthy life years, injuries due to accidents, work absenteeism and mental health.
Meritxell Barreiro Colom
With the aim of examining which is the "real" Judith depicted by Gentileschi, this project explores and analyses the most common perspectives on the heroine of Judith Slaying Holofernes, based on some of the leading research work on the topic.
