Manuel Borja-Villel. Inaugural lecture 2015-2016
The UOC Library has compiled this dossier because of the inaugural lecture of the course 2015-2016 of Manuel Borja-Villel, art historian and member of the American Academy of Arts & Sciences since 2010, has directed the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía (MNCARS) since 2008.
Who is he?
He was previously director of the Fundació Antoni Tàpies in Barcelona (1990-1998) and the Museu d’Art Contemporani de Barcelona (MACBA) (1998-2008). He has been a member of several international organizations, including the International Committee for Museums and Collections of Modern Art (CIMAM) since 2001, of which he was appointed president in 2007. That same year, Mr Borja-Villel became a member of the Advisory Committee of documenta 12 – the 12th edition of the most important contemporary art exhibition in the world – in Kassel and president of the jury of the 52nd Venice Biennial. Mr Borja-Villel delivered the UOC inaugural lecture in the academic year 2015/16. In 2018 he will be awarded an honorary doctorate by the same university.
