The entire UOC community can consult the online version of the journal from the Library

Articles with an in-depth and interdisciplinary look at current affairs and global challenges. 

To stimulate curiosity and foster in-depth analysis of current affairs are some of the objectives of La maleta de Portbou, a bimonthly journal covering the humanities and economics, headed by journalist and philosopher Josep Ramoneda and published by Galaxia Gutenberg.

Its articles not only provide a critical look at a variety of topics, but also act as a forum for reflection, dialogue, and discovery. The entire university community has access to the digital version of this online journal through the Library.

The journal features a wide variety of topics and genres, ranging from essay to journalism, literary storytelling and artistic expression, embracing key issues in philosophy, literature, politics, art and much, much more.

The articles in La Maleta de Portbou are penned by experts in a variety disciplines, such as history, economics, sociology, politics, health and technology. What's more, the UOC's teaching and research staff have made contributions on a number of occasions.

The editorial team conceives the journal as a tool for "contributing to the debate on today's world" and "tackling technological, cultural, social and geopolitical divisions."

Its issues usually feature thematic dossiers, interviews, conversations, debates and stories. Examples include:

  •  The future of planet water. In issue 64, La Maleta de Portbou focused on water scarcity, exploring how it is addressed and what its impact is. It examined topics such as planetary health, sustainable management of the resource and the effects on aquatic systems, as well as disparities in access to water.
  • Looking back to understand where we're heading. Issue 63 brought together concluding thoughts on the second Dénia Humanities Festival, organized by the journal itself, with the participation of leading figures.
  • The great disruption. With its 60th issue, the magazine marked its tenth birthday with an in-depth analysis of the events of the last ten years. Experts examined topics such as the pandemic, the war in Ukraine, artificial intelligence, the #MeToo movement, international conflicts and the environmental crisis, offering a comprehensive view of the associated global changes.
