Take a look at the Library's scheduled webinars and train yourself with videos, infographics and guides to learn how to navigate online

Learn how to find, analyse and verify information, a key skill for your studies and work

Quickly find quality information, identify fake news so you don't get misled, spot and avoid plagiarism, and learn how to cite articles or books, or even from a tweet or video game. Acquire key knowledge and essential skills that you will need both in your studies and your work. To help you develop these skills, the UOC Library has launched Library Skills, a site providing on-demand training content.

Features of the new site

  • A wide range of content: including scheduled webinars and a section with self-training materials in different formats (videos, infographics, web pages, etc.). The site will be constantly updated.

  • Flexible: each resource indicates how long it takes in minutes so that you can organize your time. There's also a search box, and filters to make it easier to find the information you need.

  • Custom content: the content has been designed or selected by the team of librarians.

What will you find there?

Here are some examples of the content you'll find on the new BiblioSkills site:

  • How to find information in the Library: guides and videos that explain how to search for information in different fields of study, such as Economics and Business or Psychology and Education Sciences. There is also other material on specific topics, so that you can learn how to search for information for a final project or a systematic review.
  • Citation guidelines with real examples: using the APA, Chicago, Harvard, ISO and Vancouver citation styles.
  • Tips to avoid fake news: a recorded webinar to help you reflect on fake news and ways to avoid it; it also talks about digital newspaper archives where you can find information from reliable sources.
  • Tips for online presentations: an infographic with general guidelines to keep in mind before and during the presentation.

What are you good at and what can you get better at?

Do you know what you need to analyse to avoid fake news? Do you know how to apply advanced search strategies, like Boolean operators, to find accurate information? Do you compare the information you find on the internet with other sources? Do you know where you can consult scientific and academic information in your field of study?

For research

BiblioSkills also includes information about webinars, videos and presentations aimed at researchers and PhD students, for each stage in the research cycle.

The self-training content addresses topics such as improving the digital profile of research staff, open access requirements for research funders, guidelines for identifying the most suitable journal to publish in, conducting advanced searches for academic information and managing research data.
