How do you download a newspaper or magazine on PressReader?

You can read the content online or download the entire issue and access it with the PressReader application (no internet connection needed).

Download the app and sign in as a user of the UOC Library. Follow these steps.

  • Select Libraries & Groups, and then Select Library or Group.

Libraries and groups

  • Type UOC in the search window at the top of the list of libraries. Tap Esta publicación está suscrita por la Biblioteca de la Universitat Oberta de Catalunya.

UOC

  • Then tap the Sign in button and enter your Virtual Campus username and password.

You will then be able to access all the content of PressReader through the app. A 30-day timer will appear. When it runs out, you will have to sign in again and search for the UOC Library in the list.

There are two options for downloading an issue:

  • Using the web version of PressReader: From the UOC Library, enter the newspaper library, open a publication and click on Open this edition in the PressReader app. The platform will automatically detect the devices where you have the app installed. Just select one.

PressReader app

  • From the app itself: Open any publication and tap the download arrow icon.

Read

  • In both cases, access downloaded issues with the app's My Library button (at the bottom of the home page).

My Library

  • When you open a newspaper or magazine from the app, you will see the Follow option. It means that, as soon as a new issue is available in PressReader, you'll find it among your downloads in the My Library section

  • The databases you can consult from the Virtual Library are collections of electronic documents and texts that have been indexed. There are two kinds of database available:

    • Bibliographic databases: they provide basic information about the document (author, title, edition, date of publication, abstracts or reviews), but they do not offer access to the original text.
    • Full-text databases

The Library subscribes to databases that allow users to consult journals, ebooks, conference proceedings, etc.

  • The first time you open the search engine, the interface will appear in Catalan. If you'd like to change it, click on the Menú option in the upper right-hand corner (or your name if you're already logged in) and then go to Mostrar idioma: Català (Show language: Catalan). Choose the language of your choice in the pop-up window.

You can also set your preferred default language by going to El meu compte (My account) / Dades personals (Personal details) / Idioma per defecte de la interfície (Default interface language). You can choose between Catalan, Spanish and English. The search engine will immediately switch to whatever language you pick.

  • In any language. However, bear in mind that most scientific and academic publications are written or indexed in English. Consequently, you may retrieve many more results if you perform the search in English.

You also have the Language filter to delimit your results.

  • Follow these steps to find information:

    • Enter the Library's search engine and write the keywords, the title of the content or the author's name and surname in the search box.

The search engine retrieves content including books, articles, journals, videos, images, degree final projects, UOC learning resources and recommended reading by the teaching staff in the classrooms.

    • Use the filters in the sidebar (type of content, date, language, etc.).
    • Click on Available online to access the content.
