Open-access Publication of Doctoral Theses Service

Once you have defended your doctoral thesis, we carry out the procedures for its open-access publication on the UOC’s O2 institutional repository and the Tesis Doctorals en Xarxa (Doctoral Theses on the Web, TDX) cooperative repository.

How does it work?

To start the process for open-access publication, you need to fill in the form and attach the following documentation:

  • Data sheet with all the appropriate fields filled in, including an abstract of the doctoral thesis in Catalan, English and Spanish of around 150 words in each language.
  • Full text of the doctoral thesis, in PDF format. The thesis can be presented divided into chapters or sections to aid reading.

You can find details on how to deposit and defend your doctoral thesis on the Virtual Campus from Procedures (for doctoral programmes) > Deposit and oral examination of doctoral thesis.

If the thesis contains articles published in specialist and/or scientific journals, these can only be added to O2 and TDX with permission from the publishers. Most journals allow a copy of articles (in pre-print or post-print versions) to be added to institutional repositories such as O2 or TDX. If the publisher does not provide permission, those parts of the thesis that do not include these articles, such as the body of the thesis (introduction, methods, results, etc.), can be added to the repositories and the text of the articles replaced by a bibliographic reference. If the UOC Library subscribes to the electronic version of the journal that the article is published in, then they can also be replaced with a link.

If you plan to publish it with a publisher or journal that prohibits its prior dissemination or publication, you need to fill in the doctoral thesis embargo period application and indicate the length of time as appropriate. Please, attach this document when filling in this form.

If you’re interested in publishing the primary data collected during the development of your doctoral thesis, contact the Library’s Research Data Management Support Service.
