Requesting books or articles from other libraries is now easier and faster!
Subject: Multidisciplinary17/10/24The new system for ordering digital documents from other libraries is faster, easier and more international.
In many cases you'll be able to receive articles and chapters in digital format by email within one working day.
View or cancel your requests in your account.
With the new system for ordering digital documents, if you can't find what you need in the UOC Library's search engine, you can see if it's available at other libraries, to receive by email within one working day. These are the main features of the new system:
- Fast: more digital documents, with less waiting time.
- Easy: you can request documents directly from the Library's search tool, from a single point and in just a few clicks.
- Book chapters in digital format: in some cases, you can order digitized chapters of paper books and have them sent to your UOC inbox within one working day. This allows you to access the content you need without having to wait to receive the book on loan.
- International: you have access to a collection of digital documents from universities and academic institutions all over the world. For example, you can obtain articles from the University of Western Australia or the University of Hong Kong.
- Tracking: you can track and cancel all your orders in "My account".
How does it work?
? When you search for a book or article in the Library, you'll find a new button called Extend your search to other libraries at the top of the search results page. Use it to expand your search to other libraries, including the Catalan University Union Catalogue.
After you have found the document you want, click on the title and a new page will open, where you can see the options available. In some cases, you will be able to order articles or book chapters in digital format, and receive them in your UOC email within 24 hours.
When the option is available, you can also borrow books from other universities using this facility. The number of requests you can make has also been increased: up to 30 requests in total at the same time (chapters, books, etc.).
If these options are not available for the article or book you want, via the search tool you can ask us to look for it. Delivery may take longer in this case, and will be subject to the terms of service.
A collaborative project
The new document request system is part of a project involving the libraries in the University Services Consortium of Catalonia (CSUC), which aims to expand the use of their collections as much as possible, enable the exchange of documents, simplify the procedures for ordering books on loan and digital copies, and reduce waiting times to the minimum.
The UOC Library team is constantly working to offer the university community faster and easier access to the information they need. It is involved in various projects to that end, including the pilot test of a generative AI tool for the UOC Library's search engine.
