Take a look at these Nature journals: research for a greener and more sustainable future
Subject: Multidisciplinary
Read about sustainability, energy, climate and the environment to reflect on the world's most pressing challenges.
At a time of increasingly urgent environmental challenges, access to current and reliable information is more important than ever. To mark World Environment Day (5 June), the UOC Library invites you to take a look at the Nature journals dedicated to sustainability and the climate emergency, which align with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The journals, which are available to all UOC students and research staff, are particularly useful for students of the Bachelor's Degree in Sustainability Management, Digital Transformation and the Environment, as well as for students taking courses relating to environmental sustainability, corporate social responsibility (CSR), the effects of climate change or public policy in these areas.
The journals

This publication presents original research studies covering a broad array of disciplines, ranging from the natural and social sciences to engineering. It explores topics such as agriculture, food security, the conservation of biodiversity, the circular economy, the effects of climate change, natural resource management and sustainability policies. It also features opinion pieces and research reviews.
To give you an idea of its scope, it can include anything from an article on the impact of woods on people's health (drawing on data from 164 wooded areas in Europe) to papers on the recovery of resources, such as the extraction of lithium from used batteries. There's also a special issue on environmental justice examining legal disputes in this area, as well as articles on new inventions, such as a system designed to protect plants from the heat and drought conditions to improve their ability to photosynthesize.

This journal covers every aspect of the energy sector. Beyond science and technology, including energy generation and storage, it also addresses energy distribution and management, the needs of various social actors and the impact of energy policies and technologies. As well as original research, it features opinion pieces, news items and reviews.
The many topics covered include, among others, an article on photovoltaic technologies to fly drones using solar energy, a reflection on the role of central banks in the energy transition and social initiatives such as Solar Mamas, under which women from local communities in various countries are trained to install, maintain and repair solar panels so that they can become ambassadors for clean energy while challenging traditional gender roles.

This journal examines issues in great depth in the form of original research on climate change from an interdisciplinary perspective. The articles featured in it explore the nature and underlying causes of climate change, the consequences that are already here and those that can be expected in the future, and its implications for the economy, politics and society as a whole. In addition to research articles, there is a dedicated discussion section with opinion pieces, analyses, expert reviews, in-depth features and field summaries.
Its articles address a great range of topics, such as the loss of farmland and its implications for food security. It also features analyses of the extent to which companies are fulfilling emission reduction targets and the responsibility of the private sector, the causes and costs of wildfires and how they relate to climate change, the interplay between temperature regulation in buildings and the environment, and the many consequences of climate change on human health.

This publication splits its articles into three main thematic areas: weather and climate, which examines the processes that affect the climate system and their impact; surface processes, which focuses on the properties, composition and changes of the Earth's surface; and solid Earth, which explores the composition, structure and dynamics of the planet's crust, mantle and core.
The journal features the annual collection "Climate Chronicles", where leading experts discuss the state of the climate and how it has evolved over the past year. It also includes reviews on the effects of environmental change on the prevalence of crop pests and the resulting risk to food security, the impact of fishing and aquaculture on marine nutrient dynamics and the challenges facing viticulture as a result of high temperatures and extreme drought.
