The UOC's institutional repository, O2, is launching a new collection of Faculty of Economics and Business continuous assessment activities
For the first time, the UOC's O2 institutional repository now includes a collection of continuous assessment activities. This is thanks to a pilot test run with the Faculty of Economics and Business.
In total there are fifteen assignments taken from nine different courses, covering subjects such as marketing, microeconomics and accounting. All are available in open access and in two languages. They are taken from past semesters and some also include the answer sheet.
“Providing continuous assessment activities from past semesters bears out our assessment processes educational potential
“Our assessment model allows our students to better their skills”, stated director of the Faculty of Economics and Business, Àngels Fitó. In this regard, “providing continuous assessment activities from past semesters bears out our assessment processes educational potential”, she added.
The current Faculty of Economics and Business pilot trial will contribute towards moving the UOC forward in its aim to open up knowledge to society through the promotion of learning resources that are free of copyright and accessible at no charge.
OER in Spanish repositories
The repositories working group within the Spanish Network of University Libraries (REBIUN) recently published the report Recursos educativos abiertos: estado de la cuestión y pautas para su impulso en las universidades españolas (Open educational resources: state of the issue and guidelines for their promotion in Spanish universities).
The report concludes that Spanish universities are showing interest in publishing the educational resources they create, although the vast majority do not have specific policies regarding this issue.
Similarly, assessment activities only represent 26.4% of the total number of open educational resources, a small percentage if we compare it with the more common type: classroom materials, which account for over 60% of the total.
Gema Santos, expert in OER at the UOC Library and action coordinator within the REBIUN's repositories working group, stated that the publication of continuous assessment activities in the UOC's institutional repository, O2, “seeks to spearhead improvements to the current situation and promote the publication of open access learning resources”.
